The Kebbi State Police Command has warned youths against further obstruction of the Kebbi-Sokoto Federal Highway following a fresh blockade on Friday, barely weeks after a similar incident on September 23.
The warning was contained in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
Usman said the latest incident disrupted vehicular movement for about three hours, leaving motorists, people requiring emergency medical attention and other road users stranded.
He described the blockade as unacceptable, stressing that it violated traffic regulations and could create opportunities for criminal activities.
The police spokesman urged aggrieved individuals to express their grievances through lawful channels, including elected representatives, traditional rulers and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), rather than obstructing public highways.
He warned that any further occurrence would attract appropriate legal action, adding that those who organised or participated in such activities could face investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Umar Hadejia, appealed to residents to act responsibly, respect the rights of other citizens and avoid actions capable of disrupting the free movement of people and goods.
Hadejia also called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in unlawful assemblies and encourage them to respect the law.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring the unhindered movement of lawful road users across the state.
He further stressed that the police would no longer tolerate road blockades under any circumstances, urging residents to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving their grievances.
