The Kano State Police Command has arrested 47 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting thuggery, drug peddling, phone snatching and other violent crimes across the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano, saying the operations were conducted between October 1 and October 7.

He said the operations involved personnel from Panshekara, Hotoro and Kiru police divisions, as well as the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

According to him, the operations led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs, dangerous weapons and other items linked to criminal activities.

Haruna-Kiyawa explained that the successes were recorded in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu’s proactive policing strategy, which emphasises community partnership and zero tolerance for criminality.

He said surveillance teams from the Panshekara Division carried out three successful operations, recovering Pregabalin capsules, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 43 tablets of suspected Exol, 216 bottles of an intoxicating substance popularly known as “Suck and Die,” and six tubes of Red Sun solution.

The police spokesperson added that operatives from the Kiru Division intercepted a suspect during routine patrol and recovered 105 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, alongside other suspected hard drugs.

Similarly, personnel from the Hotoro Division arrested suspected thugs allegedly found in possession of illicit substances and dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, axes, swords, knives and charms.

In a separate operation, the Special Intervention Squad intercepted two suspected phone snatchers allegedly operating with a tricycle around Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

“Three stolen Android phones and the operational tricycle were recovered from the suspects, who specialised in dispossessing unsuspecting passengers through pickpocketing gimmicks,” Haruna-Kiyawa said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, commended the officers for their diligence and tactical professionalism.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning those involved in thuggery, drug peddling and other criminal activities to desist or face the full consequences of the law.

Adamu-Bakori also urged residents to support police efforts by reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency helplines.

The PPRO assured the public that the suspects were undergoing discreet investigations and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigations.
