The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced moves to reinforce its grassroots structure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with the appointment of former Acting Chairman of Garki Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Moses Okorie, as Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party in the FCT.
The development followed a strategic meeting of the Garki Ward and FCT Reconciliation Community held on Saturday at the party’s national headquarters in Wuse II, Abuja.
The meeting brought together party leaders, ward executives and supporters, including the NDC leader in the FCT and the party’s senatorial candidate, Barrister Amanda Pam.
Following Okorie’s nomination by Pam and the endorsement of other state executives present, he was admitted into the FCT Working Committee and subsequently emerged as the NDC leader in Garki Ward.
The party said the decision was part of efforts to consolidate its structures, promote inclusiveness and strengthen its mobilisation and communication network ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okorie, a journalist, pledged to deploy his professional experience, media network and grassroots connections toward advancing the party’s programmes and candidates across the FCT.
He also promised to work closely with the FCT Publicity Secretary, Pastor Samuel Iloh, to establish a stronger publicity structure capable of effectively communicating the NDC’s policies and message to residents of the territory.
“I appreciate Barrister Amanda Pam for the confidence reposed in me. I will use my connections as a journalist to propagate the activities of the NDC across the FCT and work hand-in-hand with my immediate boss, Pastor Samuel Iloh,” Okorie said.
He assured the party leadership of his commitment to justifying the confidence placed in him and working toward the growth and success of the party.
Meanwhile, Dr Okechukwu Ironkwe has emerged as the new Chairman of Garki Ward, alongside other members of the ward executive.
As part of the transition, Okorie formally handed over the ward’s membership register and other administrative documents to Ironkwe.
Party members described the restructuring as a significant step toward improving coordination at the ward level and strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Members of the ward subsequently reaffirmed their loyalty to the NDC and pledged to mobilise support for the party’s candidates.
They endorsed Hassan Grema, the party’s candidate for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency; Amanda Pam, the senatorial candidate; as well as the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The party’s latest restructuring, stakeholders said, reflects its determination to expand its grassroots presence in the FCT and establish a more coordinated political machinery ahead of the 2027 polls.
The NDC leadership also urged members to maintain unity, intensify grassroots mobilisation and take the party’s message directly to voters across the Federal Capital Territory.
