The good people of Osun remain resolute, firm in their support for Accord and their governor

The Accord Party has distanced itself from its 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, following his public support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji.
The party made its position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, ahead of the Osun governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
Mgbudem said Imumolen’s participation in an APC campaign rally in Osogbo was a personal decision that did not represent the position of Accord.
He insisted that the party remained united and had no recognised factions, stressing that its leadership was duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The national chairman also rejected the description of any individual as a “factional chairman” of the party, describing the claim as a “pure delusion”.
Mgbudem accused Imumolen of pursuing personal political interests and questioned his ability to influence the election, describing him as a “political hireling and hustler seeking stomach infrastructure”.
He expressed confidence in Accord’s strength in Osun State, saying the party remained committed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and expected its supporters to back him during the election.
“The good people of Osun remain resolute, firm and steadfast in their support for Accord and their governor,” Mgbudem said.
He urged the electorate to remain loyal to the party and called on the electoral commission to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
Mgbudem equally appealed to security agencies to remain professional and impartial, while urging international observers to closely monitor the exercise.
He warned that anyone found attempting to undermine the electoral process should face appropriate sanctions.
“Let the Osun State governorship election set a new national standard in the conduct of elections in Nigeria,” the Accord chairman said.
