The Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called for increased investment in education, describing it as the foundation for sustainable national development.
Olajengbesi made the call on Sunday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State.
According to him, education remains the most critical driver of progress, urging leaders at all levels to prioritise funding and policies that will strengthen the sector.
“People in positions of authority must invest heavily in education. It is the most critical factor for national development. Any nation that underestimates the value of knowledge will reap underdevelopment,” he said.
Describing the convocation as more than a graduation ceremony, Olajengbesi said it represented a celebration of knowledge and the emergence of a new generation of graduates equipped to contribute to national growth and economic development.
He commended Adeleke University for its academic excellence, quality learning environment, and contributions to human capital development, describing it as one of Nigeria’s leading private universities.
Olajengbesi also praised the institution’s founder, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, for his vision in establishing a university that promotes quality education and produces globally competitive graduates.
According to him, private institutions such as Adeleke University are helping to bridge gaps in Nigeria’s education system while providing students with quality educational opportunities within the country.
Speaking in his capacity as the Official Spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, Olajengbesi also expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke would secure a second term in office during the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Aug. 15, 2026.
He attributed his confidence to what he described as the governor’s widespread popularity and the infrastructural projects executed across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Olajengbesi urged residents of Osun State to support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration, saying continuity would consolidate achievements recorded in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and workers’ welfare.
The 12th Convocation Ceremony attracted dignitaries, traditional rulers, parents, and graduating students from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, who gathered to celebrate another milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
