365Daily– The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), has applauded President Bola Tinubu for approving a new salary structure for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the decision as a major boost to the morale and welfare of troops.
In a statement, the Minister said the salary review reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel and strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
The new salary package, which will take effect from September 1, 2026, is expected to benefit about 250,000 personnel across the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force.
Under the approved structure, personnel from the rank of Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 per cent salary increase. Officers from Warrant Officer to Colonel will earn a 50 per cent increase, while officers above the rank of Colonel will receive a 30 per cent adjustment.
Musa said the increase in personnel spending from N660 billion to N924 billion demonstrates the President’s commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces who continue to confront terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other security challenges across the country.
He noted that the improved conditions of service would ease financial pressures on troops and inspire them to carry out their responsibilities with greater dedication, discipline and professionalism.
The Minister urged officers and soldiers to regard the salary increase as a renewed call to intensify efforts toward safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity, protecting lives and property, and restoring peace in all parts of the country.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s agenda of modernising military equipment, strengthening technological capabilities and improving the overall welfare of service personnel and their families.
Before the announcement, Musa had disclosed during a programme for widows and wives of military personnel at Lungi Barracks in Abuja on July 27 that the Federal Government was working on another salary review for troops.
He expressed confidence that the President would further improve the remuneration of military personnel in recognition of their sacrifices.
He added that the latest approval underscores the Federal Government’s determination to ensure that members of the Armed Forces remain motivated and adequately supported in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
