The police on Friday dragged two people before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing slippers worth N700,000.
The defendants are: Rasak Samad, 17; and Alamu Olaniyi, 20.
The duo whose addresses were not provided were charged with stealing and receiving stolen property.
They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in 2024, at Ogunpa market in Ibadan.
He alleged that Samad stole sliding slippers worth N700,000, belonging to a complainant, one Mrs Olamide Kasali.
He added that Olaniyi on the other hand, had received the stolen slippers from Samad, knowing that same were stolen.
The offences contravene provisions of Sections 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwaferanmi Raji, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The court held that the prosecutor must duly verify addresses of the sureties
She adjourned the case until May 6 for hearing. (NAN)
