365Daily – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated the Super Eagles for qualifying for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following their 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker praised the team’s performance throughout the tournament, describing it as impressive and deserving of national pride.

“‎I congratulate the Super Eagles for their qualification to the semi-finals of the 2025 AFCON after their convincing 2–0 victory over Algeria,” Abbas said. “The team has shown sterling performance since their first match, and Nigerians are proud of them.”

The Speaker charged the national team to go a step further by winning the tournament and returning the AFCON trophy to Nigeria.

“I urge the Super Eagles to sustain the momentum, win the tournament and bring the AFCON trophy back home,” he said.

Abbas expressed confidence in the team ahead of their semi-final clash against hosts Morocco on Wednesday, noting that his support and prayers are with the players.

“As they face the host nation, Morocco, my prayers and unwavering support are with the team. I am confident that the Super Eagles will overcome this hurdle and progress to the final,” he stated.

The Speaker also commended Nigerian sports authorities for ensuring the welfare and logistics of the team, while calling for increased motivation as the tournament reaches its critical stage.

“I commend the sports authorities for providing the needed welfare and logistics support to the team, but more morale boosters are required as the Super Eagles enter the final stages of the competition,” Abbas said.

He further urged Nigerians to extend the enthusiasm and unity shown in support of the Super Eagles to other areas of national life.

“The kind of support Nigerians have demonstrated for the Super Eagles should be extended to other spheres of our national life,” he said.

According to the Speaker, sports remain a vital tool for national cohesion and economic growth.

“Sports remain one of the strongest tools for uniting Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines. It is also a major employer of labour and holds huge potential for our economy,” Abbas added.

He wished the Super Eagles a successful outing in the AFCON semi-final, expressing optimism about their chances of lifting the trophy.
