Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have thwarted an attempted terrorist infiltration of a military base in Borno State and safely evacuated 21 female students following credible intelligence of a planned attack by insurgents.

Operational reports made available on Monday also disclosed that troops arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper believed to be operating between Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon.

According to the report, troops of the 3 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani detected terrorists suspected to be members of ISWAP/JAS attempting to surround their position through closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.

The troops immediately engaged the insurgents in a firefight, forcing them to abandon the operation and retreat before they could execute the planned infiltration.

In a separate operation, troops of Sector 3 acted swiftly on intelligence indicating that seven suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been sighted near the Water Board Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno.

The troops promptly evacuated 21 female students staying in the vicinity to the safety of Kinnasara Barracks.

According to the report, three of the students suffered seizure episodes during the evacuation and were immediately taken to hospital, where they were stabilised. Security was subsequently reinforced around the area to forestall any attack.

Elsewhere in Borno, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, working alongside local hunters, engaged terrorists at Surajo village in Askira Uba Local Government Area.

The terrorists fled under pressure, abandoning three bicycles and two coolers, which were recovered by the troops.

The report further stated that troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion, in collaboration with local hunters, arrested a suspected kidnapper at Gaya in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to belonging to a kidnapping syndicate based in Solere Forest in Cameroon. He allegedly admitted that members of the gang crossed into Nigeria to carry out abductions before retreating across the border.

In Kogi State, troops of Operation MESA, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, rescued a kidnapped victim along the Koton Karfe–Okparake Road.

Three suspected terrorists were arrested during the operation.

Security operatives recovered one locally fabricated Dane gun, one motorcycle, three mobile phones and ₦23,000 from the suspects.

The rescued victim has since been reunited with his family.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded to reports of terrorist activities along the Wasagu–Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area.

The troops engaged the fleeing terrorists, forcing them to abandon two motorcycles, which were recovered during the operation.

The latest operations underscore the military’s sustained offensive against insurgents, kidnappers and other criminal elements across multiple theatres, as security forces continue efforts to safeguard lives and protect vulnerable communities.
