365Daily – Lt.-Col. Olabisi Anele has made history as the first female spokesperson of the Nigerian Army in its over 150-year existence.
Anele officially took over from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu at a handover ceremony held at Army Headquarters, following her appointment as acting Director of Army Public Relations by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in a recent posting and redeployment.
“This is a historic responsibility, and I do not take it lightly,” Anele said. “I will remain absolutely loyal, committed, and results-driven.”
She praised her predecessor for transforming the Directorate into a modern communication hub, citing his “resilience and professionalism” as a model to build on. “Your contributions to enhancing the image and strategic communication of the Nigerian Army are remarkable,” she said.
Anele called on defence correspondents to “uphold truth, fairness and responsibility,” and pledged to lead with transparency and professionalism. “We will continue to tell the Nigerian Army’s story—not just in words, but through action.”
In his farewell speech, Nwachukwu listed key achievements, including the launch of Nigerian Army Info TV, the establishment of a Strategic Communications Centre, and major upgrades to the Directorate’s media equipment and personnel training.
“We didn’t just adapt to the digital media age—we innovated,” he said. “Together, we laid the bricks for a solid institutional legacy.”
