The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled annual maintenance exercise at its 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation, which will result in a six-hour power disruption across parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State.
In a statement issued on Monday, TCN said the maintenance is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
According to the company, the exercise is part of its annual preventive maintenance programme and will involve work on the 132kV Katampe–Gwarimpa Transmission Line 1 bay switchgear and associated equipment.
TCN explained that the maintenance would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to receive and distribute electricity to customers in several areas.
Affected locations in Abuja include Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Gwarinpa and environs; parts of Kubwa, Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks and Jiwa, among others.
Other affected areas include Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla, Zuba and their environs.
The transmission company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause.
TCN said the maintenance exercise was necessary to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of the transmission network and to support stable electricity supply in the affected areas.
The company urged affected residents to make appropriate arrangements for the period of the scheduled outage.
