The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent efforts to rectify a fault affecting its 100MVA TR4 transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, TCN said the transformer tripped in the early hours of the day, resulting in an interruption of bulk power supply to four 33kV feeders.
The affected feeders are H31, H33, H35 and H37, which supply electricity to customers under the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
According to TCN, preliminary findings indicate that the transformer fault may be connected to oil spillage on the Red Phase high-voltage (HV) bushing.
The company said its maintenance team has already commenced a detailed investigation of the transformer to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate the necessary repairs.
“Maintenance crew are already carrying out detailed investigation on the transformer, to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” TCN said.
The transmission company assured electricity consumers connected to the affected feeders that its engineers are working to restore the transformer and normal bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused to AEDC customers as a result of the incident, assuring the public that every effort is being made to minimise the duration of the power interruption.
The company said further updates would be provided as repair works are completed.
