Honourable Olofin Olusola, the national convener of BAT Vanguard; one of the support groups that worked for the emergence of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 general election, has supported the notion that very soon fuel price would come down for as low as N500 per litre with the resuscitation of the country’s refineries by the present administration.
He expressed this optimism while speaking with newsmen at the end of the year/new year celebration of the group held in Abuja on Saturday, saying President Tinubu has made some policies, which include the removal of fuel subsidy, but with the coming back of Nigeria’s refineries which were moribund, price of fuel has already started coming down and would continue on downward trajectory as the year progresses.
According to him, “Tinubu-led administration has been able to make tough decisions, which predominate of it is the removal of fuel subsidy at the start of the administration.
“He is a man that is able to give a no-sense and performing body language. He has ordered that the refineries must work, and as a matter of fact the BAT Vanguard was among the people that went to inspect the Port Harcourt Refinery. We did a tour of the facility, and thank God, what we saw there was astonishing.
“The 60,000 capacity is working in full gear, and we have about 250,000 that is almost 80 per cent completed as at the time we were there. Warri Petrochemical Refinery has also started working as well.
“These would cushion the effect of high cost of fuel. As you can see too, we have started seeing the effect as fuel price has started coming down, and if we give the administration more time, you would be surprised we would be buying fuel for N500 per litre.
Olofin lamented the fact that some unscrupulous Nigerians are taking undue advantage of other citizens by hiking prices of goods and services and warned that such persons should desist from such acts and stop giving the government bad name as well as making life difficult for others.
According to him, “Nigerians are actually the problems of Nigeria; we need to imbibe the culture of satisfaction. People are too greedy, they take advantage of every aspect of shortcoming in government, which is not supposed to be.
“When you take such advantage, you would be impacting pains on your fellow citizens and it goes round and round. We should not be over-pricing things for selfish gains. This is the only way we can have a prosperous Nigeria”.
