The Speaker expressed sadness over the ravaging flooding in various parts of the country, noted that concerted efforts must be put in place to mitigate its effects.

365Daily – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives as a result of the flooding that affected some communities in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had disclosed that from August to early September, a total of 15 persons lost their lives from floods, while 3,000 persons were displaced, with 21,481 individuals sustaining injuries due to the flooding.
The Katsina SEMA further revealed that a total of 32,542 houses have been damaged in 32 local government areas in the state. The most severely affected areas included Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa, with Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa also experiencing significant impact.
In a press statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Kirshi, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Speaker expressed sadness over the ravaging floods in various parts of the country.
He noted that concerted efforts must be put in place to mitigate the effects of flooding on victims, while reiterating the need for residents and communities to heed the advisory issued by the relevant authorities regarding weather issues.
He stated, “My thoughts and prayers are with the people and the government of Katsina State over this sad incident.
“I also extend my sympathies to the families of those impacted by the flooding in other parts of the country.”
He further called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to double its efforts in providing relief materials to the affected persons.
