Three officers killed as gunmen attack Ebonyi/Enugu border checkpoint

365Daily – Gunmen have killed three police officers at a border checkpoint along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway.

They were reportedly shot dead on Saturday night, January 28, 2023.

The gunmen, who were said to have operated in a Sienna bus, opened fire at the checkpoint, leaving one officer with a leg injury and killing three.

Confirming the incident, Spokesman of Ebonyi Police Command, Chris Anyanwu,  confirmed the incident.

According to Anyanwu: “The attack by gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 18:08hrs.

“Three police personnel of Operation Safer Highway were fatally injured and later confirmed dead.

“The hoodlums operated in two sienna vehicles, drove into the checkpoint, and opened fire on the policemen.”

He also disclosed that the officer who was shot in the leg  is receiving treatment at a medical facility in the state capital, Abakaliki.

In December, two people, including a police officer, were killed following an attack on a police checkpoint in Abakaliki.

One of the gunmen was also killed in the attack.
