The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has said its COVID-19 mass vaccination is targeted at achieving herd immunity in Nigeria.
NPHCDA’s Executive Director, Dr Faisal Shuaib, also disclosed that the mass vaccination campaign was an initiative of the agency, state governments and development partners.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, December 1, 2021, in Abuja that the move was meant to increase access and utilisation of COVID-19 vaccines.
According to him, the campaign would expand vaccination to public and private health facilities, pharmacies, COVID-19 diagnostic centres, and high human traffic public places such as shopping malls, markets and events centres.
“COVID-19 vaccination is not compulsory. However, with effect from Dec. 1, 2021, Federal Government employees shall be required to show proof of vaccination.
“They can also present negative COVID-19 PCR test results obtained within 72 hours to gain access into their offices,’’ he said.
He restated that COVID-19 vaccine is free, safe and effective and that recipients should take same type at the first and second rounds of vaccination.
Shuaib also restated that those who are 18 years and above should take the vaccines already approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
