365Daily – Security Chiefs will tomorrow, Thursday, August 17, 2021, brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the surrender of insurgents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, made this disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
Buhari had been away in London for an eighteen day routine medical check-up and returned to Abuja last Friday.
He had earlier attended an education summit within the period.
Adesina said the nation’s security forces had taken the battle more robustly to insurgents, bandits and all other criminals troubling the country in the last few weeks, leading to their ”surrendering in droves.”
According to him: ”The President will be brought up to speed on developments at the Thursday meeting, while plans to bring a decisive end to the challenges will be formulated.”
There have been widespread criticism of the ‘pampering’ of self-acclaimed repentant insurgents by military forces after pictures showing them receiving food items from them surfaced online.
Governor Babagana Zulum, whose state, Borno, has been the epicentre of the insurgency, had on August 14, decried the security implication of reintegrating surrendered Boko Haram terrorists into the society.
He noted that it would be difficult for people to welcome back people who killed their loved ones and urged stakeholders to seriously examine the wider implications of the action.
Zulum, therefore, called for ”a well thought-out critical framework that is to either accept the surrendering terrorists, or reject them and continue with the war.”
