365Daily – The sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday recorded total compliance across Ebonyi state.
365daily monitored the level of compliance on May 31, 2021 and gathered that markers, banks, motor parks and other commercial places, including schools and government offices, were under lock and key.
Streets around Abakaliki, the state capital, were totally deserted between 7:30 am and 11am when 365Daily moved within the city to monitor the compliance level.
Contrary to information by the leader of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, that men of the security arm of the group, ESN, would be unleashed on the streets to enforce compliance to the order, some motorists attending to emergencies were seen driving along the road without molestation.
365Daily, however gathered that there was heavy deployment of a combined team of security personnel who moved round the town to ensure law and order.
The Ebonyi State Police Command had, on Sunday, assured that it would ensure that those who were willing to come out to carry out their businesses would not be molested by any person or group of persons.
Major markets in the state, including Margaret Umahi international market, Kpirikpiri market, Ahiaofu, and others markets were all shut down as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, no incident of violence has so far been recorded in the state as a result of the exercise.
The State Governor, David Umahi, had earlier ordered traders, workers to go about their normal businesses but later reversed it, advising all and sundry to observe the sit-at- home order by IPOP.
