365Daily – Commercial activities have come to a standstill in Owerri, the Imo state capital as residents deserted its streets and roads in compliance with the sit-at-home order issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, had said human and vehicular movement would be restricted across the South-East on Monday, May 31, 2021, to mark the 54th anniversary of Biafra.
As a result, all markets, parks, schools, airports and others would be shut down.
365Daily gathered that commercial banks, schools, shops, malls, were all shut in Owerri on Monday morning.
Commercial and private vehicles were also rarely seen on the roads in the state capital due to residents’ fear of being caught and shot by IPOB operatives.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, and the Police had asked the people to ignore the separatist group’s sit-at-home order.
