Pope John Paul (PJP) Football Club of Okpuno and Mekon FC of Umunze on Tuesday secured wins at the ongoing “My Anambra Football” Super 8 Tournament in Onitsha.
Both clubs emerged leaders of Groups A and B respectively after securing wins in their Day 2 matches.
PJP FC defeated Konti FC of Ummunachi 2-1 to secure three points from their game at the Chuba Ikpeazu Mini-Stadium.
After having played a goalless draw with Rangels FC on Monday, they now occupy the top spot of Group A with four points.
Mekon FC are on top of Group B with four points also, after a 2-1 win against GP World FA of Nnewi.
They had played out a goalless draw with SmithCity of Awka in their opening game on Monday.
In two other games decided on Tuesday, SmithCity drew 1-1 with Golden Boys of Onitsha while Ifechikwulu FC of Omor pipped Rangels FC of Umunze 1-0.
PJP FC striker Benjamin Anaduaka dedicated the victory to his teammates and expressed hope that their last game against Ifechikwulu FC would be pursued with every vigour.
Four matches would be played on Wednesday at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, with the top two teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
The competition’s final is to hold at the NEROS Stadium in Nanka on Saturday.(NAN)
