Hon. Chukwuka Wilfred Onyema, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on politicians to emulate the leadership examples of former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi.
Onyema, popularly known as Chuchu, made this call while speaking at a townhall meeting with his constituents.
He said the townhall meeting was necessitated by the need to have a better understanding of his constituents’ needs through community interaction with the constituents, which will enable him represent them better.
In his speech during the Eucharistic Celebration that preceded the event, the Parish Priest of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, New Heaven, Okpoko, Rev. Fr. Theophilus Odukwe, praised Obi, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2019 elections, who he described as a man that left behind so many legacy projects in Anambra State as governor.
Fr. Odukwe lauded Obi for the many school projects and network of roads he constructed in Ogbaru when he was the governor of the state.
He said Obi single-handedly constructed Obodoukwu Road, Ede Road and many other roads in Ogbaru. He lamented that the present state government has neglected the roads which are now dilapidated.
“Whenever it rains, most of these roads become un-motorable. Only tricycles ply the road during the rainy season because of how bad the roads are. I have even, through an application to the state government, asked to be allowed to reconstruct the roads by myself. We are still waiting for the approval,” Odukwe lamented.
On his part, Obi appreciated Onyema for making out time to have a community interaction with his constituents. He said it was a sign of good governance and proper political representation. He equally appreciated Fr. Odukwe for his zeal and dedication to community development.
He beckoned on the people to continue to pray for those in power that they may use public funds to develop society.
He said, “If anyone tells you that Nigeria is getting better, then the person is lying to you. Our country is going from bad to worse, due to the greed and selfishness of our leaders that have refused to put public funds into judicious use. If Nigerian leaders can use public funds well to work for the people, our nation will soar in greatness.”
