365Daily– Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and Governor Uzodimma’s Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, have exchanged words ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party (AP), appealed for a peaceful, free and credible election during a press briefing in Osun State.
He urged political stakeholders to allow the people of the state to freely decide the outcome of the poll.
Addressing Uzodimma, who is serving as chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for the election, Davido appealed to him not to interfere in the electoral process.
The singer also referred to his family ties to Imo State through his wife, Chioma Adeleke, saying they shared a relationship as in laws and urging the governor to support a peaceful election.
In response, Nwaogwugwu issued a statement dismissing Davido’s appeal and advising him to direct his message to the electorate instead.
Nwaogwugwu maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was committed to a peaceful, free and credible governorship election, while expressing confidence that the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would emerge victorious at the polls.
The governor’s aide also criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, claiming that many residents of Osun State were dissatisfied with the current government and ready for a change in leadership.
He further advised Davido to prepare his uncle for life after office, adding that the singer should “officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band” if Governor Adeleke loses the election.
On social media, supporters of both the APC and the Accord Party expressed differing views over the remarks. While some backed Davido’s call for a peaceful election, others defended the Imo State Government’s response.
The public exchange comes as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the August 15 governorship election, one of Nigeria’s most closely watched off cycle polls.
