The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has expressed appreciation to the management of Daily Times Nigeria for honouring him with the DTN@100 Politician of the Year Award.
Yilwatda described the recognition as a great honour and a humbling reminder of his journey in public service and leadership, saying the award had further strengthened his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s development.
The APC chairman stated this while acknowledging the commemorative package presented to him by the Publisher of Daily Times Nigeria, Mr Fidelis Anosike, ahead of the newspaper’s 100th anniversary celebration scheduled for September 3.
The package includes a 1960 edition of the Daily Times newspaper, an award certificate and a commemorative plaque.
Yilwatda said the items represented more than historical memorabilia, describing them as a powerful reminder of the responsibility that comes with public service and the privilege of contributing to the progress of the country.
He said being recognised by an institution with the history and legacy of Daily Times Nigeria was a special privilege, noting the newspaper’s significant role in Nigeria’s media and national development over the past century.
“For a century, Daily Times has been an important part of Nigeria’s media and national story, documenting our journey as a people and contributing significantly to the development of journalism and public discourse,” he said.
The APC national chairman said he received the award with profound gratitude and humility, stressing that recognition in public life should deepen a leader’s sense of responsibility rather than merely serve as a moment of celebration.
According to him, the honour has reinforced his determination to continue working towards building a stronger, united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
Yilwatda expressed gratitude to the management and entire family of Daily Times Nigeria for finding him worthy of the recognition, adding that the honour represented a demonstration of confidence and goodwill.
He also looked forward to participating in the September 3 celebration alongside the publisher, members of the Daily Times family and other distinguished Nigerians to commemorate the newspaper’s century-long legacy.
The APC chairman concluded by reiterating his appreciation to Daily Times Nigeria, saying he accepted the honour with “gratitude, humility and a renewed commitment to service.”
