365Daily – The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, has been abducted from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State.
The incident occurred on Friday, January 31, 2025, while he was hosting several lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu.
Four armed individuals, suspected to be kidnappers, forcibly entered his home, intimidated his guests, and took him away to an undisclosed location.
Initial attempts by the assailants to use Prof. Chima’s vehicle were thwarted, as the car was undergoing maintenance and failed to start. Consequently, the kidnappers commandeered a passing vehicle transporting logs and fled the scene with the ABSIEC Chairman.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is personally overseeing the investigation. He assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure Prof. Chima’s safe return.
