Governor Alia mourns renowned Tiv scholar, Prof JT Orkar

Governor Alia prayed for God to console Prof. Orkar’s immediate family, the people of Makurdi Local Government, and Benue State as a whole

Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has commiserated with the Orkar family over the death of their patriarch, Professor Kpamor Joseph Targema Orkar.

Prof. Orkar, a renowned scholar and politician, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at a private hospital in Abuja.

Governor Alia, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi Tuesday, described the late Prof. Orkar as a great community leader, father, and builder of many.

He noted that Prof. Orkar’s influence extended far beyond his immediate family and professional circle, having served as a councillor, member of the Benue State House of Assembly, and Commissioner for Works and Transport.

He said as a scholar, Prof. Orkar was a pioneer in the study of the Tiv language and culture, acknowledging that the deceased was the first Professor of “Zwa Tiv” Tiv language and authored several books written in the Tiv language, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of Tiv literary studies.

Governor Alia prayed for God to console Prof. Orkar’s immediate family, the people of Makurdi Local Government, and Benue State as a whole.

He also prayed for Prof. Orkar’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
