Speaker Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has expressed willingness of the Assembly to give the Disability Bill an accelerated passed when the reviewed draft bill being worked upon by the attorney general and commissioner of justice is brought before it.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion on the legislative process for the disability bill in Benue State organized by the Inclusive Friends Association, IFA, held at Eya’s hotel yesterday in Makurdi, Dajo represented by a deputy clerk of the Benue Assembly, David Ochapa, expressed optimism that with the nod given by the executive concerning the bill it was a major breakthrough for persons with disabilities in the state.
The speaker who said the house has been waiting patiently for the realization of this bill, assured that as soon as the bill is brought before the Assembly it would be given the needed attention it deserves.
In his remark, majority leader of the Benue Assembly, Saater Tiseer, represented by Daniel Gaver, said with the agreement from the Speaker and other members of the Assembly, he was optimism that the house would do justice to the bill when it is brought before it.
On her part Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber, represented by Akor Abiem, assured that she would ensure that issues of PWDs are included in next year’s budget proposal, adding that government would equally expedite action in the constitution of a board for people with disabilities, PWDs for speedy take off.
In their separate contributions, some Assembly members at the event including, Anyor Mato, Becky Orpin, Moses Dugeri, Dauglas Akya and Terwase Uche; all lamented the unfriendly nature of infrastructure in the state to the disability community.

In a welcome remark, Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association, IFA, Grace Jerry, expressed appreciation to the governor, and the Benue State House of Assembly for ensuring that Benue is also included among the list of states that have domesticated the disability law.
