365Daily – President Bola Tinubu will next week transmit the New National Minimum Wage to the National Assembly.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Monday, July 11, 2024, at the State House, Abuja.
He added that the executive will also send an amendment of the 2024 budget to the National Assembly.
The tramsmission of the Minimum Wage Bill is expected to come after the President meets with organised labour on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Tinubu had last Thursday met with labour leaders over the minimum wage issue but the Tripartite Committee of the new National Minimum Wage had submitted two separate figures to the President following a disagreement among the different stakeholders.
365Daily gathered that in their reports, the government’s team and that of the organised private sector had offered N62,000, while organised labour pushed for N250,000.
Reacting to the different reports, President Tinubu had promised to meet with relevant stakeholders to harmonise the figure before transmitting it to the National Assembly.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) which held at the Council Chamber, State House, the Information and National Orientation Minister said that the President will transmit the executive bill after the meeting with the organised labour on Thursday.
According to him, the amendment would take care of the new minimum wage among other things.
