Nigerian social media personality Bobrisky has criticised women he believes are overusing Ozempic in pursuit of weight loss, urging them to embrace their natural bodies rather than blindly follow beauty trends.
In a social media post, Bobrisky expressed concern over what he described as dramatic physical changes among some women, claiming that individuals who previously had fuller figures had become excessively slim.
Using humour to drive home his point, the controversial personality compared their new appearances to lizards that had forgotten to eat, questioning whether they examined themselves in the mirror before embracing such weight-loss trends.
Bobrisky also cautioned women against taking the pursuit of a slimmer body to the extreme, stressing that the popularity of a beauty or weight-loss trend does not necessarily make it suitable for everyone.
He encouraged women to recognise when their pursuit of particular beauty standards had gone too far and to develop greater appreciation for their bodies.
Ozempic, a prescription medication containing semaglutide, is primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes and can also reduce appetite and body weight. However, its growing association with weight loss has generated discussions about its use, medical supervision and the pressure to achieve particular body shapes.
Bobrisky’s comments have added to ongoing conversations on social media about weight management, body image and the influence of beauty standards on women’s choices.
His remarks have also drawn attention to the broader debate over the use of weight-loss medications for cosmetic purposes and the importance of making informed decisions about personal health.
Medical professionals generally advise that prescription weight-loss medications should be used under appropriate medical supervision, rather than adopted solely because they have become popular online.
