Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, Special Adviser to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jerry Nwohu, PhD, among others have received award of Fellows of the Institute of for Governance and Leadership Studies of Africa (IGLSA).
The investiture ceremony for this special award took place in Abuja, on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
According to the organizers, “Dr. Nwohu stands as an exemplary figure in Nigeria, celebrated not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his exceptional linguistic abilities and his influential role in the country’s political landscape. As a polyglot, Dr. Nwohu possesses a profound command over Nigeria’s major languages, namely Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo, enabling him to communicate effectively across diverse cultural and regional divides within the nation.
“He stands as a shining example of how linguistic proficiency, cultural appreciation, and political astuteness can converge to create a harmonious and unified Nigeria, transcending linguistic, ethnic, and regional barriers for the greater good of the nation.”
The Institute, which has the former Nigerian Head of State, Dr. Yakubu Gowon as President, is an international Non-state Intellectual and Professional Resource Centre established as a constructive and concerted response to the challenges of Africa’s development.
According to its official published document, the institute is, “A multi-disciplinary Centre, designed to address some of the skill gaps that had affected the quality of governance and leadership in the Continent.
“The Institute is an approved professional body authorized by the Federal Ministry of Education to undertake training and certification on Governance and Leadership. It is affiliated with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Global Risk Alliance, United Kingdom, the Public Service Institute of Nigeria and other reputable professional bodies to offer courses on governance, leadership and related subject matter.
“A major policy of the institute is the commitment to, and pursuance of, high quality in all our programmes. It is instructive to know that as part of that commitment, we set out at the very beginning to put in place structures that would facilitate this. Nothing better expresses this than the quality of our governing council which has Nigeria’s former head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon PhD. GCFR as its President. Other members of the Council include a distinguished Nigerian female law scholar, Prof. Jummai Audu, a retired justice of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olutunlola O. Adekeye JSC(rtd)and a former Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Engr. Mohammed Abba Gana.”
Apart from Governor Buni, Magu and Dr. Nwohu, seven others received the prestigious award of fellow of the institute on Saturday.
