Reps Tribunal judgement: Elumelu won’t take our mandate from the backdoor, says LP’s Okolie

Nobody will take the mandate of the Aniocha/Oshimili people from the backdoor. We shall overcome.

365Daily – The Member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, has urged his supporters to maintain calm as he will fight to retain his mandate legally.

An election petition court yesterday ordered that Hon. Okolie should vacate the Reps seat, and declared his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Ndudi Elumelu, who came second in the February polls as the rightful occupant.

The Tribunal declared that the candidate of the Labour Party joined the party outside the window allowed by the law before the LP’s primary election where he emerged as candidate.

According to Hon. Okolie, who defeated Elumelu in the February election by a wide margin, “Ngozi Okolie is not the person on trial, but our democracy and judiciary.”

Responding to the tribunal judgement, he said further, “Nobody will take the mandate of the Aniocha/Oshimili people from the backdoor. We shall overcome.”

He assured the people that he would appeal the ruling, but pleaded with them not to take laws into their hands.
