The light-up Lagos is one of Governor Babajide Sanwolu intervention programmes in improving the quality of power supply to unserved and underserved communities in Lagos state.
The programme is marked towards upgrading the existing Distribution Network Infrastructure from Alimosho 3 1.5MVA Transmission/Injection Substation feeding in communities. It kicked off with its phase 1, which includes Alimosho LGA, Agege-Oko-Oba and Abbatior also referred as Abule-Eba communities.
The scope of this phase 1 will see to the completion of Distribution Upgrade of the entire corridor that includes; Alimosho-Orelope, Okunola, Agege-Oko-Oba and Abbatior. This entails Upgrading of 11KV Feeders and Low Lines with 100 per cent metering of approximately 7,511 prepaid meters.
The construction which commenced in April 2022 already has 8,613 addresses connected to the Service Feeders in Alimosho alone to benefit from the improved power supply.
Notably; in September 2022, the daily supply to the Transformer Substation at Okunola had improved to an average of 21 hours daily from around 14 hours prior to the upgrade and Orelope had experienced an average of 19 hours daily power supply improvement from its previous 10 hours prior to this intervention.

The full impact of this intervention will be more evident to residents of the phase 1 (pilot areas) once all the residents are metered.
Thursday’s stakeholders engagement/ meeting was to create the needed awareness to the affected communities in Alimosho, Oko-Oba and Abule-Egba on the infrastructure upgrade on distribution and charging them on the need to cooperate with Ikeja Electric in sustaining the integrity of the feeders by way of avoiding energy theft through meter bypass, shunning vandalization of electrical installations, lack of prompt reporting of damaged materials and other dorm of vices.
