Three Commissioners in Delta State have donated N6 million to victims of flood disaster in the state.

The donors are Mr Kingsley Ashibogwu, Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr Fidelis Telije, Commissioner for Finance, and Mr Festus Ochonogor, Commissioner for Housing.

The donation was announced on Tuesday by Mr Ashibogwu, Commissioner for Higher Education, when the trio visited displaced flood victims who were camped at the Technical College, Kwale.

Addressing the victims, Ashibogwu described the flood disaster as heart breaking, noting that properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed, and urged them not to see the situation as the end of the world but to appreciate God for the gift of life.

He said “the donation will enable them provide their needs and make them comfortable at the camp.

“This is very traumatising, you have lost properties. But know that you are still here for a purpose. This is beyond all of us but one thing I know is that it will stop soon, keep hope alive and stay safe.”

Ashibogwu said that the state government is concerned about the safety of the flood victims, especially the children; and would ensure that they were well taking care of.

He, however, urged them to observe proper hygiene around the camp to prevent any disease outbreak, adding that children and the older ones were more vulnerable to diseases.
