365Daily – Contrary to the reported suspension of the current strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the lecturers had not taken a definite decision to end it as at Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
Responding to reports and social media posts circulated on Tuesday morning suggesting that the union had suspended the strike following a meeting with members of the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday, ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, said the news was “fake.”
It was gathered that meetings will be held at the various zones and branches of the union between today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) where a stand will be taken before the National Executive Council of the union will meet to decide on the suspension of the strike.
365Daily recalls that the Court of Appeal last Friday ordered ASUU to suspend the strike in a judgment on an appeal against the judgement of the Industrial Court which ordered it back to work.
On Monday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed that there was progress in the negotiation with the government on resolving the areas of disagreement.
He said following discussions woh President Muhammadu Buhari, he was optimistic that the strike will be called off in a few days.
