365Daily – Over 200 households in Makurdi have suffered displacement caused by acute flooding.
Makurdi is the capital of Benue State.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Emmanuel Shior, in Makurdi on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the monthly distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
While lamenting the worsening flood situation in the state, he identified the affected areas as Naka Road, Achusa Kucha Utebe, Gyado Villa, Judge’s Quarters Extension, parts of Nyiman, among others.
Shior informed that the state’s Committee on Floods had approved the expansion of selected camps in Makurdi, Guma and Logo to accommodate flood victims.
He expressed concern over recent attacks on some communities in the state that resulted in the displacement of more than 400,000 people which the state government is now to.
The Executive Secretary added that the agency is also catering to the victims and to refugees from Cameroon staying in Kwande Local Government Area of the state and appealed to the Federal Government to assist as it is overburdened.
