365Daily – Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Wednesday stopped a motion seeking to move for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to address escalating insecurity across the country.
This led to a walkout by Senators belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the plenary of Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
It all started when a point of order was raised by the Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, reminding the Senate of its resolutions taken after a closed door session.
Referring to the issue of insecurity in the country, he reminded his colleagues that they were meant to “give the president an ultimatum to resolve the issues of insecurity and give an impeachment notice if the demands are not met.”
His presentation was cut short by Sen. Lawan, who said he failed to “cite the order” he relied on to raise the matter, and for failing to “discuss the matter with him privately.”
The presiding officer then ruled him out of order to signal the end to the matter.
In reaction, the PDP lawmakers stormed out of the Red Chamber in protest.
