365Daily – Hon. Mohammed Bago has been declared the winner of the Niger State All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries.
He represents Chanchaga Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Bago contested for the Speaker of the Green Chamber in 2019, but lost to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Lawmaker beat nine other aspirants to emerge victorious in the struggle for the party’s ticket, including the Deputy Governor of the State, Alh. Mohammed Ketso; Alh. Mohammed Kutigi, Alh. Aliyu Idris, Alh. Mohammed Sani Ndanusa, Alh. Mohammed Idris Malagi, Alh. Mohammed Rufau Mohammed, Alh. Idris Musa Makaranta and Alh. Mohammed Kpautagi.
A breakdown of the scores show that Ketso scored 17, Kutigi 1, Aliyu 1, Muhammad Nda 1, Sanni Ndanusa 84, Mohammed Malagi 386 and Hon. Bago 540.
Valid votes were 1,049, while void votes were 11.
The Chief Returning Officer, Bar. Nasiru Ibrahim, a former Attorney General of Kebbi State, announced that about 1,049 delegates were accredited to participate in the elections which held at the Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna.
He said: “Hon. Bago has the highest votes in the elections held in Minna, Niger State, therefore, I, Bar. Nasiru as the chairman Electoral committee, declare Hon Bago as the winner of the elections.”
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Mohammed Bago thanked God for the success of the elections and called on party supporters not too celebrate yet.
“We are not yet there, we still have work ahead. It is my prayer that APC forms the next Government,” he said.
