365Daily – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (EFCC) has arraigned suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and six others, over drug trafficking related offences.
The arraignment took place in an Abuja Court on Monday, March 7, 2022.
Kyari and his fellow accused are facing eight counts of hard drugs trafficking.
Others arraigned with him are Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunday Ubua, Assistant Superintendent of Police Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba, Inspector John Nuhu, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.
NDLEA accused Kyari of dealing 17.55 kilograms of cocaine between January 19 and 25, 2022. This is in addition to another charge on obstruction of justice and attempted bribery of NDLEA officers.
Two alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, were also docked.
Kyari, dressed in blue native attire, and his police co-defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charge, while the 6th and 7th defendants, Umeibe and Ezenwanne, pleaded guilty to the charge that was read to them before trial Justice Emeka Nwite.
