365Daily – Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court has moved the next court appearance of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to January 18, 19 and 20, 2022.
It was earlier scheduled for January 19 and 20, 2022.
This followed the hearing on a motion for time abridgement filed by Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, which was heard by the court on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
The motion was opposed by the counsel to the Federal Government, Shuaib Labaran, wo informed the court that a counter affidavit opposing the request had been filed and served on Kanu.
Justice Nyako, while commenting on the motion, informed Kanu’s lawyer that the application for time abridgement could be considered because there is no judicial time to make adjustments.
The case diary of the court was then read to Kanu’s lawyer to establish that the court was fully booked.
However, Justice Nyako agreed to shift other cases slated for January 18 to accommodate the trial which will last till January 19 and 20.
Justice Nyako also ordered the DSS to allow Kanu enjoy his fundamental human right to practice his faith.
She also ordered the agency to allow him change his clothes, and be given the maximum possible comfort in the detention facility.
