The Executive Secretary, Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Kenneth Oziomaeze, on Tuesday said the agency recorded 24 disaster incidents between October 2020 and 2021.
Oziomaeze, said this while interacting with journalists on the agency’s responses to disaster cases recorded in the state.
The SEMA boss said that the Federal Government provided interventions worth over N200 million to assist victims affected with flood disaster.
He disclosed that about 4,500 farmers affected by flood in 2020 were captured in nine local government areas of the state for the intervention programme.
He said the farm inputs procured for the intervention included seedlings, chemicals, growth enhancer, fertilizers, spraying machines and water pumping machines for dry season farming, among others.
“We have done a number of interventions but this is the highest since my inception as Executive Secretary.
“We did the distribution with National Emergency Management Agency and Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
“The items were supplied and had been distributed to the farmers with relief materials, buildings to victims of fire, windstorm and communal crisis,” he said.
Oziomaeze also commended the Federal and State Governments for interventions so far.
He said that seven fire incidents, five wind storm, six communal crises and one flood disaster cases each in six local government areas were recorded during the period. (NAN)
