Nasarawa State House of Assembly says it has concluded plans to enact a law that will control the proliferation of private schools in the state.
Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Mr Daniel Ogazi, stated this in Lafia on Friday.
He said this shortly after the National Executives of Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), led by its President, Mr Alkhamis Ladan, presented an award to him.
He said that enacting a law to control proliferation of private schools would not only improve on the standard of education in the state, but also bring speedy development to the sector.
The News Agency of Nigera (NAN) reports that Ogazi received “The Most Outstanding Parliamentarian of the Education Sector” from the association.
Ogazi said, ” We will come up with a law that will control the proliferation of private schools in the state.
” And the law will cover both nursery , primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions.
“We have noticed that they are finding Nasarawa State a safe heaven for establishing private schools without building standards.
“We will continue to support Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s policy in the education sector.
“We will partner with you and other relevant organisations to give the education sector a lifeline in the state,” he said.
Ogazi appreciated the NASSA for the award and assured of his continued determination to ensure that the standard of education improves in the state.
“I want to thank you for the award which will encourage me and my committee members to do more.
”I am dedicating this award to all members of the education committee,” Ogazi said.
Earlier, the NASSA president while presenting the award commended the education committee chairman for his doggedness, transparency and accountability which he said informed the decision to honour him.
He added that Ogazi had made a foot print in the state education sector as a parliamentarian.
The NASSA president urged him to sustain the tempo considering the role of education in societal development. (NAN)
