365Daily– The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for free, fair and peaceful governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Obi, who served as governor of the state for 8 years, made the call in a press release issued on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
He said: “As we come to the end of electioneering, I call on Anambra people to demonstrate their franchise by coming out en masse to vote. I also call on everyone directly or indirectly associated with this election to ensure it is free, fair and peaceful.”
The ex-banker urged Anambrarians to respsct the sanctity of life and shun violence. He added that as brothers and sisters, they should not kill and maim one another because of election.
“Among our people and many cultures of the world, human life is sacred and must be treated as such,” he stressed.
Obi thanked the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for calling off the sit-at-home order it had earlier declared, while urging the government to release and dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators as expected in a democracy.
On the imperative of electing the best person to govern the state in Saturday elections, Obi stated: “We see how a state that was truly the ‘Light of the Nation’, once referenced as the best in terms of virtually all developmental index, has gone back to its previous notoriety as ‘Home for All’ and is once again referenced for all the bad reasons. If we continue on this trajectory, it will sound the final death knell for our dear state.”
He, therefore, charged Anambra electorate to “vote for a candidate with character, competence; a candidate that would be prudent in the management of resources and development oriented by expressing willingness to invest in critical areas of education, fighting poverty, improving the health sector, among others.”
Obi went further to warn against electing “a 21st century emperor that would see himself as a king and not a servant.”
