365Daily – Frontline jurist and promoter of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, has thrown his weight behind the ‘Save A Million Mothers’ centenary anniversary project of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), describing it as “visionary and core service to humanity.”
The renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria expressed this sentiment with a promise to partner with the group, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, when he received representatives of the AGPMPN, led by its National President, Dr. Iyke Odo, at his home in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Odo explained that the centenary project is specially designed to help redress the high rates of avoidable infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria, essentially as Nigeria holds the unenviable record of the highest rate in Africa
He further disclosed that as a way of giving back to the society, part of the centenary event which holds on August 12, 2021, in Abuja, will be the official launch of a private healthcare intervention fund to support two cardinal national projects for Nigeria, one of which is the ‘Save One Million Nigerian Mothers Initiative’, otherwise known as the (Mobile Health Solution).
He applauded Chief Babalola’s huge investment in the Medical School of the Afe Babalola University, and the remarkable professionalism that the institution has come to be known for.
The prominent jurist, Odo said, is a link between the less privileged and the privileged,
having started from a humble beginning to the exulted position he holds today in the society.
According to Dr. Odo, asking Chief Babalola to partner AGPMPN in this live-saving project, is “a double-barrel invitation; first, it provides the opportunity to recognize the service of a man to humanity, which will spur others to service. Secondly, it provides the platform for further service to a renowned public servant.
The partnership with the Private Doctors’ project to ‘Save One Million Nigerian Women and Children’ from avoidable deaths, is another platform for service, to save lives.”
The elder statesman, Aare Babalola, commended Dr. Odo and his group for their progressive vision to give back to the society through the project designed to prioritise the health of mothers and children in Nigeria.
He gave assurances that he will be part of the AGPMPN’s centenary activities and also be a partner in its patriotic project of being part of a solution to healthcare delivery challenges in Nigeria.
