Court approves only 10 media organisations for Nnamdi Kanu’s trial coverage

365Daily – The Federal High Court where the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is to continue today, Monday, July 26, 2021, has accredited only 10 media houses to cover its proceedings.
A letter to this effect was sighted by 365Daily.
Dated 23 July, 2021 and signed by the Chief Information Officer, Catherine Oby Christopher, the letter with reference number FHC/ABJ/INFO/026, stated that only the underlisted 10 names representing their media organisations would be allowed into the court premises.
The directive runs contrary to an earlier report that the Department of State Services (DSS) was responsible for selecting which media houses would cover the keenly anticipated trial.
365Daily gathered that the list was forwarded to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force by the court authorities.

The Federal Government has imposed restrictions on attendance at the court hearing, with heavy security presence at the court premises since Sunday.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had warned IPOB members not to attend the hearing, and prohibited wearing of branded clothing around the area.

However, Emma Powerful, Spokesman of the organisation, said IPOB members will defy the directive because they have the right to move wherever they wish to in an organised and civil manner.
