365Daily – The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the composition of the Federal Government’s team to engage with Twitter over the recent suspension of the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Assistant To The President (Media), Segun Adeyemi, in Abuja on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
Adeyemi said the Minister will chair the FG’s team.
Other members of the team include the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geofrey Onyeama; the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, as well as other relevant
government agencies.
The meeting is sequel to a letter written by Twitter to President Buhari seeking to engage with the Federal Government over the indefinite suspension of its operations in the country, with a view to charting a path forward.
Twitter’s suspension came after the micro-blogging app deleted a tweet posted from President Buhari’s handle which Nigerians flagged and urged it to delete.
He had said in the post that troublemakers in the Southeast will be subjected to a language that they understand, leading to an outcry that he was referring to the Civil War in Biafra in the 60s.
