365Daily – The Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Umahi, has ordered a full scale investigation into the attack and kidnap of Barrister Amos Ogbonnaya, a former Coordinator in the state.

Ogbonnaya, who was a Coordinator of Anuagata Development Centre in Ohaozara Local Government Area, was kidnapped and tortured last Thursday by suspected political thugs. He was later released on Friday.

Umahi, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze, condemned the kidnap and ordered a probe into the incident.

Following the mixed reactions that trailed his kidnap, the Ebonyi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, to probe his alleged kidnap.

Ebonyi PDP publicity secretary, Silas Onu, in a statement said: “We are calling on the IGP, even as our leaders take necessary steps in that direction, to personally open an investigation into this high crime. Immunity does not last forever.”

Since the alleged incident, there have been accusations and counter accusations from both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the kidnap and torture.

The Governor’s statement said: “Having followed the trend of events, including accusations and counter-accusations in some quarters, the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, condemns the unsavoury situation in strong terms, knowing that such is unhealthy for collective democratic existence.

“The Governor has directed the police and other security agencies to swing into action by unearthing all perpetrators of the dastardly act, to enable them face justice. He wishes Mr. Ogbonna a quick recovery.”
