The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has stated its resolve to support electronic registration and update of members’ register nationwide.
According to the forum, such an innovation would make PDP more efficient and effective and ensure fraud-free primaries, so that the will of party members should always prevail in nomination of candidates, congresses and conventions.
This was part of the communique issued at the end of the meeting of PDP Governors Forum held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Sokoto Governors Lodge, Abuja.
The meeting, which was chaired by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, had Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Governor Ayade Benedict of Cross Rivers State, Governor Samuel Ioraer Ortom of Benue State, Governor Bello Mattawale of Zamfara State and Crowther Seth, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, in attendance.
The forum also disclosed that it is determined to strengthen the party to play its appropriate role as the bulwark for betterment of the lives of Nigerians.
It also called on Nigerians to ignore rumour mongers and mischief makers trying to sow seeds of disunity in the party.
The meeting which was attended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party received an interim Report of the PDP Reconciliation Committee of the Party and commended the NWC for setting up the Committee and lauded the Reconciliation Committee on a job well done so far.
It also disclosed that it has set up a peer review mechanism to monitor and benchmark the laudable achievements of PDP Governors in their various states and inaugurated three Committees of the Forum. Which are the finance committee, the legislative liaison committee and the legal affairs committee.
Addressing the issue of insecuriy, the forum called on the government to take necessary steps to engage and collaborate with all major stakeholders, and that states that bear the major brunt of the security challenges should get more support.
The Forum also reviewed the economic situation in the country and noted the recent increase in crude oil prices. It urged the Federal Government to use this opportunity to further diversify the economy and provide the enabling environment for Nigerians to thrive in all sectors.
