A 35-year-old butcher, Emeka Nnamani, on Friday, March 5, 2021, appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly swindling a goat supplier.
The police charged Nnamani with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecution counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Joe Ilodiuba reported the matter at Kubwa Police Station on February 21.
Okpa said that the complainant entrusted five goats to the defendant to sell and remit the money to him on February 11.
He asserted that the defendant sold the goats and converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Yetunde Iwot admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N75, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Iwot also ordered that the surety must be a chairman of the Butchers’ Market Association, in Abuja, adding that his address must be verified by the prosecution counsel.
She adjourned the case until April 6 for hearing.
