The military has located the bandits’ hideout where abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, are being held, Chief of Army Staff, General Buratai, has disclosed.

President aide, Bashir Ahmad, revealed this in a tweet posted on Saturday.

He said the Army chief disclosed this in a briefing to President Muhammadu on the bandits’ attack on the GSS Kankara, adding that the military was in an ongoing operation where gunfire is being exchanged between both parties.

“The Chief of Army Staff, General Buratai, briefs the President on the bandits’ attack on the GSSS Kankara; the military, supported by air power has located the bandits’ enclave at Zango/Paula forest in Kankara and there have been exchange of fire in an ongoing operation,” he stated.

Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits attacked Government Science Secondary School in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State around 11:30pm on Friday, shooting a police officer manning the school and reportedly abducting about 600 students.

“The bandits shot the security man at the gate and another one disappeared. I heard some students were kidnapped but I can’t ascertain the number. At the moment, the security operatives have converged on the area, moving around the town. They are counting the students to know those who are missing,” the source said.

Isah Gambo, spokesman of Katsina State Police Command, said 200 students had been found as at Saturday morning, with further search ongoing to locate others.

The attack happened on President Buhari’s first visit to Katsina, where he hails from, in 2020.
