The Electoral Commission of Ghana On Wednesday announced Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, as the winner of Monday’s keenly contested presidential election.
Akufo-Addo beat his long-time opponent John Mahama, with his party, the New Patriotic Party received 6,730,413 or 51.59 per cent of total votes, while Mahama of the National Democratic Congress received 6,214,889 or 47.36 per cent of total votes.
Pronouncing the incumbent winner for a second term, the nation’s electoral commission’s chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, said: “On the basis of the foregoing election results and by the powers vested in me as the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the interim officer of the election, it is my duty and honour to declare Nana Akufo-Addo as president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.”
