Integrity of judiciary is questionable, says angry lawyer

By Moses Okorie

An aggrieved lawyer, Barrister Calistus Osondu, Counsel to the embattled member of Imo State House of Assembly, Herclus Okoro and others, has said that the integrity of the judiciary is questionable, which may lead to anarchy.

He stated this on Tuesday, November 17, when answering questions from newsmen in Owerri, after his clients was denied bail, despite the fact that according to him, the Magistrate admitted that the offence they are accused of is bailable.

According to him, “There is no need detaining these people at the pleasure of one man who claims to be Governor of Imo State; quote me. The same court he is giving instruction is the same court that put him in power. He supposed to respect the sanctity of the judiciary, and allow people their freedom.

“A member of the house should not be detained and humiliated at the pleasure of the Governor; it’s never been done anywhere. This is a slap on the judiciary, a slap to Ohaji/Egbema Constituency; holding their representative since Friday last week”.
